Raising plants can provide many beneficial emotional and health effects. For some it is a great way to relieve stress and provide and outlet to recover from a hectic day, it is also a great way to get much-needed exercise. There is a sort of serenity found in getting dirt under one’s nails. Many therapists are recommending gardening to their patients to help them work through emotional problems and set backs from trauma as well as other issues. Activities that require one to sacrifice time and self have incredible healing powers. This sort of therapy is nearly cost-free, but the benefits reaped are invaluable for any individual participating. Families are finding that tending a garden together has brought them closer and taught them lessons on how to work together on a common goal; growing food or beautiful flowers to brighten their lawns.
Some that can’t grow a garden due to space or lack of land have found that container gardening is just as rewarding, and often better for those lacking time and resources to nurture a large garden. Nearly any type of plant can be grown in containers, and they often reduce the physical requirements of gardening that may not be performed by some. Though gardening is therapeutic, it can be physically taxing as well as time-consuming. These are downfalls, but the overall benefits are high enough to offset any negative aspect. Whether raising a large garden, or tending a container garden on a patio, many enjoy starting their plants from seed. Starting plants by seed is a good way to see the miracle behind growing that is not seen when buying them as seedlings. Watching a seed turn into a tiny plant and then turning into a mature one that produces yummy vegetables, or beautiful flowers is an experience that is not only intriguing for children, but adults as well. No matter how a garden is grown, or what the size; people are finding that it is not only great to work through the stresses of life, but it makes a great hobby for those of any age.
